April ATCs

I ended up just signing up for two ATCs in April, as the posting date for the third one is always end of the month and we’ll be moving after the weekend. The two themes this month were All Our Yesterdays (AOY) and the letter K.
I have loads of AOY charts so the problem there was actually settling on one to do, I changed a couple of the colors and used a variegated sea blue for part of the sea, it was stitched on 18 count cream aida. I love how it turned out, BUT I absolutely hated stitching it. I’m not sure why I didn’t like it, I guess because it felt like a chore the whole way through. This design was in the little AOY diary which came as a freebie with WOXS before Christmas 2010.

Conversely I loved stitching my K themed ATC. I had a perfect chart for it, it was part of the Barrick Sampler alphabet by Carriage House Samplings and I’ve been meaning to stitching it for a while. I picked out some lovely colors from my hand dyed floss stash and stitched on 16-count cream gold-flecked aida, it’s the same fabric I stitched The Wedding on, and I’ve used it for lots of things, but it never seems to get used up. I’ve already got this one kitted up to stitch again, this time I’ll be finishing it as a fob for my key ring.

A bit of a closer look

Two of the themes for May are M and Famous Landmarks, I have a lovely Blackbird Designs chart in mind for the second one, but I haven’t quite settled on a letter M one yet. Tune in at the end of the month to see how they turned out and what the third theme ended up being 🙂

Stitchy Saturdays – Some ATCs etc.

I’m really unorganized this month, not only did I not find my camera for most of it but once I did I forgot to take pictures. I do have a couple of things to show though.
First we have a few ATC, these first two are from the February exchanges on two facebook groups I’m a member of.
For this one we had the choice of two charts designed by Kell, a cross stitch one and a blackwork one. Below is my interpretation of the blackwork chart.

This one had a Valentine’s theme, and I used a Liz Almond chart which was in the WOXS Design Library she designed.

And as my March ATCs have been received I can show them off as well.

For the Cross Stitch ATCs group the theme was Transport. I wanted to stitch a more unusual mode of transport and settled on a Penny-farthing. It’s my favorite ATC that I’ve stitched (with the possible exception of the silhouette one), I used a DMC colour variations and stitched on 18 count aida.

In the Addicted to Cross Stitch ATCs group our theme was Luck o’ the Irish, and I stitched my atc putting together elements from a couple of Kell’s Irish designs.

One of nexts month’s themes is AOY (All Our Yesterdays) so at the moment I’m trying to decide which design to go with, I have at least 12 thanks to the Mini diary which was a magazine freebie.

I also stitched a square for LoveQuiltsUK, using the Brushstroke Butterfly chart which is a freebie over at CyberStitchers. I used some varigated Anchor (1335 methinks), as I was stitching on 11 count I uded about a skein and a half. Now I’m trying to find some more charts to stitch up. There are no specific childrens quilts at the moment, instead there are 4 stitch-a-longs, the themes being Butterflies, Purple, Green and Disney Characters. If you have some time on your stitching hands and have a chart which would be suitable to one of the themes head on over and sign up 🙂

I have also finished my March biscornu and a Crazy January Challenge piece, but need to take some nicer pictures of them before letting you see them 🙂 And then there are some mother’s day cards and other cards. Maybe I’ll have to make it stitchy Saturdays and Sundays 🙂

ATCs from January

In January I participated in two ATC exchanges, on with CrossStitchForum and one with the Addicted to ATCs group on facebook

The theme for the Addicted To ATCs was Garnet, the ATC had to be stitched using a garnet shade. I went for a blackwork design by Liz Almond which was part of the Design Library in World of Crossstitching last year, Blackwork Garden I think it was called.
I stitched the design using Navy 16-count aida and DMC 817 and 815 (I think)

And here is the beautiful ATC I received from Jaki. I love the bling in the middle 🙂

For the Crossstitchforum ATC the theme was a bit more obscure. It was supposed to either have something to do with our forum names or something which represented us as a person. I had a hard time figuring out what to stitch, my forum name is a short form of my pen name so it had to be something to do with books. In the end I had hubby draw an outline of a book on my fabric and I back stitched the lines, then I found a romantic looking silhouette and stitched that as the cover. I’m really pleased with it.
The ATC is stitched on 32-count Belfast linen, using DMC 310, a DMC red (816 possibly) and the silhouette is in GAST Black Raspberry Jam (I just LOVE the color of it). I stitched the silhouette over one which was a nightmare, but as is the case with so many nightmarish things it was well worth it. I’m just sad i didn’t get to keep it.

I received this ATC from Ali-Cat, cleverly using a cat alphabet to illustrate her name. Isn’t it cute?

June ATCs

Yeah, I realise it’s September, but my June ATCs with the Cross Stitch ATC’s facebook group have not been without problems. In fact both the ones I sent disappeared and I had to make new ones, this is starting to become a regular occurrence which is why I temporarily stopped signing up for exchanges, I’ll do them again when we get back to the UK.

Anyways, the themes for June was FIFA/Wimbledon and the letter ‘N’, and here are my contributions.

Stitched on white and navy 14-count aida with DMC threads, stitched from my own chart

Letter ‘N’

Stitched on 16 count white aida coloured with a blue crayon. The frame is stitched with Polstitches Dragonfloss Sea Witch, the N with Polstitches Dragonfloss Fireworks and the needle in DMC Light Effects (can’t remember which of the golds I used). If you want to stitch it yourself the design can be found here

I’m looking forward to joining in with ATCs again in October, when we are back in the UK, as they are so much fun to do. And quick!

Crossstitchforum ‘SUMMER’ ATC Exchange

We’ve just started sending out our Summer ATC’s on Crossstitchforum so my recipient doesn’t have it yet, however we haven’t kept them a secret so I can post a picture of mine without ruining the surprise.

I had a hard time deciding on the design for this one as summer is so many things, I had sort of designed one with a deserted beach, palm trees and a boat moored away in the distance (elements taken from different charts) as that is what summer in Abu Dhabi reminds me of (or rather all year except the summer, but you get my meaning). Anyway as I was about to start stitching I came across the perfect chart, it’s sort of beach themed and the motif was perfect for a stitcher.

I modified it slightly as the whole design with original wording would have been too big for an ATC on 16-count, basically kept the main motif but used my own text.
I then mounted it on cardboard and wrote my details on the back.

The design is from Brooke’s Books Publishing and can be found here (at the bottom left).

I stitched the design on 16-count white aida which has been coloured lightly with crayons to get the sketchy blue effect. I used the colours in the chart as much a I could, but there were a few of the greens I didn’t have so subbed them for different colours. Quite like the effect of it actually, he looks like a camo frog.
The words are stitched with Polstitches’ Dragonfloss – 123 Flippin’ Frogs (I thought that was quite appropriate).

I’m really getting into the whole ATC thing and have recently joined a group on Facebook where they do two exchanges a month, for June the themes are the letter ‘N’ and FIFA/Tennis. The letter one is completed, and the FIFA one about to be started, but I can’t show you any pics of those until they have been received, so you’ll just have to wait.

Winter/Snow ATC exchange and Easter Egg Exchange at Crossstitchforum.com

I suddenly realized I haven’t shown you the ATC I received or the Easter egg. I have previously posted pictures of the ones I made, you can find my Winter/Snow ATC here and my easter egg design here. Luckily my ATC reached it’s recipient after some time, but my Easter egg is still in the postal system, it must be over a month now! I have made a replacement egg though, and I’m ready to send that out once we decided it’s time to cut our losses with the first one.

I received my ATC from Grub72 quite quickly and it’s really sweet, you can see for yourself.

Snow/Winter ATC from Grub72

My Easter egg from Kerry also come soon after the send out date, and she had made it in to a brilliant needle book, all my needles are now stored there and I don’t lose as many as before!

Thanks guys for a lovely few exchanges.

Now we have two more exchanges going on, a Biscornu scissor fob exchange and a Summer ATC. The biscornu is done, and the ATC is being charted as we speak, still plenty of time. I’m afraid you won’t be seeing pictures of them until sometime in June though.

ATC exchange – Winter/Snow themed

I recently joined a xstitch forum, and once on there I just had to join their various exchanges. This one is an ATC (Artist Trading Card) exchange, with the theme Winter and/or Snow. ATC’s are restricted on size, they should always be 2.5 x 3.5 inches, so I chose to do it on 16 count aida so I could fit more on to it. The motif is from a Luxury chart book which I believe was a freebie with World Of Cross Stitching in September or October, I changed the colours, stitching the snowman with white DMC metallic thread. It was a pain but it looks much better than the charted pale blue. The stars and writing was made with Madeira metallic thread which were also freebies except I can’t remember from where, and the border was made with a mix of madeira metallic and DMC cotton.

And here is the picture
