Thursday Three

I thought it was about time I re-introduced this one, as I always had so much fun finding 3 things to feature.

1. People I’d like to punch in the Face – I’m not entirely sure how I found Jen’s blog, but once I did I was hooked. I went back to the beginning and read my way through her entire archive. She has a great sense of humor, a lot of snark and she doesn’t take herself too seriously (my pet hate is people who snark on everyone else but can’t handle any snark back). One of my favorite recent posts is , do check it and the rest of this blog out.

2. Bunheads – Did you LOVE Gilmore Girls? Then you need to check out this new show from Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino. Don’t let the first episode fool you it only gets better. The quick quips, small town drama and the amazing Kelly Bishop, all work together to draw you in. And if that isn’t enough there is the “Spot the Gilmore Girls alumni” drinking game, fun for everyone. Unfortunately I can’t find any news on who (if any) has bought the UK rights, but in the US the series was back from it’s mid season hiatus yesterday, one of the highlights of my week.

3. Norwegian waffles – I LOVE waffles, they were always my favorite treat as a kind. Warm, freshly made, with a bit of butter, jam, sour cream and/or cheese, they were just divine! And since I have an amazing husband I started the new year as a waffle maker owner ( best Xmas gift EVER), now I can have a little taste of the old country when ever I want!

Baah, baah little sheep

I LOVE sheep, and I have a ridiculous amount of sheep designs in my stash, especially from Little House Needleworks and Shepherd’s Bush. But I haven’t gotten around to stitching a lot of them yet.
You’ve seen one of them partly stitched, well it has been fully stitched now

Little House Needleworks – Two Sheep (freebie)
stitched over 1 on 28-count teadyed evenweave
using a mix of WDW, GAST and DMC

Another design I stitched from LHN was this one from the 2010 Ornament series.

Little House Needleworks – Winter Sheep (No.5 in 2010 Ornament Series)
stitched on 32-count Sea Storm from Lakeside Linen
using a mix of Dragonfloss, DMC, WDW and GAST

My next sheep is one I’m particularly proud of, as the design was all me. I’d been toying with the idea of making some self cover buttons, but I hadn’t been able to decide what to stitch to cover them. Then I though a nice wooly sheep would be nice, particularly to use as a button a a cushion I have planned. And to give it some nice texture I decided to do it entirely in french knots. I basically just did an oval of french knots, then filled it in with more french knots, then did the black french knots (for the head) using 4 strands. I haven’t actually made it in to a button yet as I wanted to do a few more on that fabric before I cut them out. I’m not 100% happy with the design, he needs a few more french knots in his body and he definitely needs longer legs, but I’m surprisingly happy with the french knots in general, they used to be my least favorite stitches.

using DMC 310 and DMC Variations 4015

A couple of The Sampler Girl finishes

Way, way back in October 2011 I finished two of my The Sampler Girl designs into small pillows, but with my camera dying a sudden death I didn’t actually take pictures of them until Christmas when I got my new camera. I’m not sure why it took me from Christmas to now to post the pictures but there you go.

The first one was Fancy A Darcy Day? which you’ve already see the stitched finish of. I’m mostly happy with how it looked except the ric-rac was a real pain to stitch on the sewing machine so it’s not very straight.

Then I did the companion design Fancy A Jane Day?, which I had some frogging problems with. I’m really happy with the finish though, by happy accident the lace was the perfect shade for it (I picked it up in a charity shop for 20p, still have about 3m left of it).

By the way, do you like my little Christmas decorations? My amazing mum knitted them, they are my favorite decorations that don’t go on the tree.
