McDreamy, McSteamy and McChicks

I’ve been spending the last week or so re-watching Grey’s Anatomy. It’s a show I loved from the start, but due to my work hours when it was first on UK television I missed a few episodes from the first and second season, so while we were house sitting last month I made sure I downloaded Season 1 and 2 to make the set complete.

Well I’m now on season 3, just about to watch Meredith die and come back to life, and of course the sorry excuse for a story line that then followed. When I first watched the show this was what turned me off the whole Meredith/McDreamy thing, I mean come on how much back and forth can there be? It’s not like it’s Days of Our Lives or The Bold and The Beautiful, or some other daytime soap. I mean, seriously, SERIOUSLY! Sorry, just couldn’t resist.

Well fast forward to the current season and Meredith and Derek are finally together again, although their little marriage just between themselves is sure to blow up into something big. My guess Derek is in an accident, then comatose and Mer has no say in what to do bacause she has no legal say in the matter. Well that’s just my two cents, and at this point I couldn’t care less if they both died horrible deaths. No, the Gray that has my allegiance is Lexi. And the Lexi/McSteamy relationship is the most intriguing and sweetest relationship I’ve seen on telly for a while (they are batteling it out with a few others, but currently they are in the lead). And I’m not saying that just because Eric Dane is amazingly sexy and HOT, well maybe that is part of the reason. Anyway here is a pic to drool over while I try to remember the point of this post. It should come to me in a day or two.

Things You Do In Dhabi When It’s Hot

Maybe that should be things I do. And for the most part the answer would be sweet FA. I do my best to stay out of the sun during the day and only step out into the über-humid evening if absolutely necessary. But within the four walls (and we seriously only have 4 walls) of our apartment there is not much to keep occupied with, and to avoid dying of boredom (or taking other drastic measures) I needed to find things to do.

A month or so down the line, and I now have two addictions, erm hobbies. One is absolutely terrible, a devil made made thing, which sucks your life and soul right out of you- I call it The Sims 3.

It’s so freakin addictive it’s not even funny, once I start I just can’t stop and to top it off I discovered the Sims3 online community, seriously not good. Luckily (in some ways) we don’t have internet at home, so since our house/cat sitting gig ended the time I’ve spent on has been minimal. Mostly I just pop by and read a few stories or check the boards if I have any issues. Then of course I got sucked into the whole Legacy business. For those not in the know, the legacy challenge is creating one sim, man woman of child bearing/rearing age, you then have to buy the most expensive lot (not house) which leaves you with about 1000 simolions for house building etc. Clearly you can’t build a house with so little money and most sims spend the first while of their existence sleeping on park benches, showering at the gym, crashing other people’s picnics etc. There are many more rules to the legacy but the main thing is you have to get through 10 generations of sims without using any cheats. Maybe that’s easy for most people, well not for me, finding the money cheats is always the first thing I do when playing the sims.  But more on that later. So yeah, my first Summer hobby, The Sims 3.

The second addiction is a far more conventional hobby, I’m cross stitching. It’s something I haven’t done since secondary school, but instantly loved it again and slowly but surely getting more confident with it. My first project was a kit i bought from Magrudy’s, a ‘Me to You’ bear wedding picture. The plan is to find a nice, plain wedding album where I can frame and mount the picture at the front. I’m about 2/3 of the way through, and not quite sure what to start after it. There is a crafts shop here called ‘Green Branch’ and I think I’ll have a gander in there for future stitchings.

More on both hobbies later, for now I’ll have to sign off.

Falling in love/lust, whatever…

A few months back in fell, head over heels, totally and utterly, in love with a gorgeous pair of SHOES. Peep-toe, high heal, sand coloured canvas with thin leather strips in green (turquise), pink, colar, peach, white, yellow, orange and light blue…sigh…

No, I don’t have a shoe fetish. I just don’t usually find shoes I love, I usually fall in lust with them, and definitely in want, but the minute I try them on and they can’t accomodate my large awkward feet, the infatuation end. In the case of the aformentioned shoes however they fit perfectly, no battle to fit my foot in, my toes were not wishing they could just be cut off. In short the looked beautiful, on and off.

Unfortunately our love was not to be, the gorgeous, amazing shoes came with a 400 dhs price tag, which for me is far too much when I’m not even working. So I reluctantly left the shop and came back every now and again just to gaze lovingly at them…hmm maybe I do have a shoe fetish.

Fast forward to last Friday, my birthday. As usual hubby had not bought a pressie, instead I was sent to buy one myself, well that’s not quite true, he would have come except I know how much he hates shopping for stuff that aren’t guy related. I had no idea what to get, there wasn’t really anything I needed, but at his mention of clothes I figured it was worth a look-see, after all the sales are on. So after a morning spent watching the newest Harry Potter (more on that later) with a friend we went to work, scouting the shops of Marina Mall and Centerpoint. A few hours later I had not bought much (I’m a fussy buyer, definitely not impulsive), a cute summer dress and a sun hat was the extent of the purchases. I looked at shoes, loads of shoes, but had the usual issue, they just don’t fit.

In the end I went into town to Abu Dhabi Mall, to meet hubby before our dinner reservation. No shoes had been found, so my trusty Havaianas would have to do. I decided to have one last look in the shops at the mall, after all they differ a little from the Marina Mall shops so there could be something. As I took the escalator up to have a look in Dune, I found myself looking at Mango and their 50-70% off signs and hope reared it’s ugly head…Oh yeah, the ‘love’ shoes were from Mango by the way… The Mango shoe section is tiny and I quickly had the whoel thing scouted out, MY SHOES WERE GONE. Not a single pair in sight, with a resigned sigh I turned around and started to walk out of the shop, and there they were. One pair, one, wonderful, amazing, gorgeous pair. As I got closer, anxious thoughts popped up, “One pair left. What is the likelihood of them being my size? Slim to none.” With a deep breath I picked them up and there it was, shining like a neon billboard, Size 41, MY FREAKING SIZE. Then I noticed something else, there was no sale sticker on them.

After a moment of deflatedness I pulled myself together and used logic. There was one pair left, the shoes had been out for months, by rights they should be on sale. So with another deep breath I approached one of the sales assistants and asked in a low, hopeful (probably pitiful) voice, “Are these included in the sale?”

They were, in fact they were now 150 dhs and I wasted no time pulling my wallet out and paying. Then I slipped them on, relegated the Havaianas to my bag and had a lovely birthday dinner with my husband. who really knows how to get perfect birthday presents 🙂

So does anyone want to see my wondeful shoes? Well here they are…

National Blog Posting Month

Right, so I always get sucked into these gimmicky things, NaNoWriMo and ScriptFrenzy to name but a few (ok so I haven’t completed Scriptfrenzy, but seriously, YOU try to write a screen play, it’s hard!!), and today as I was tinkering around on the WordPress Dashboard THIS was one of the WordPress News Items.

Long Story Short: From today (which is 19th of July here in UAE) until 18th of August I will endevour to post at least one thing every day as part of National Blog Posting Month (NaBloPoMo). I don’t actually have internet at home so this should encurage me to get out of the house and in to town every day (YES, I will indeed brave the heat), and I might even get a tan, although with my usual SPF 50 that is less likely …

Unlike NaNo, which is where the NaBlo peeps got their idea, this challenge is not restricted to one month out of the year, instead you can pick which month to do it and even start mid month like moi. The only rule really is you have to post every day for a month. The helpful people over at even post monthly themes for inspiration and this month’s theme is ROUTINE, using the theme is optinal, but I can see how it would be helpful when feeling a bit uninspired.

So keep your fingers crossed that I’ll get into a routine and not eff this up 🙂

Oh yeah, before I forget, here is a link to My Page at NaBloPoMo.
